Nuviews

Background

The company Nuviews of Dublin started producing real photographic postcards in the early 1950’s. The photographs are of a high quality, but to date little is known about the company or the photographer(s) they employed. The cards themselves are unusual in that each has a slightly crimped edge, probably as a result of the process for cutting the sheets of cards. The numbering system consists of numbers and letters, with in the main, the numbers referring to a specific location, and each card from that location having a different letter. There are some un-numbered cards, and these are listed in alphabetical order at the end of the numbered list. The earliest dates of use seen are for July 1954, and most of the used cards are dated in the 1950’s. At this time in Ireland, real photographic cards by Photocraft / Cardall were becoming very popular and this competition may explain the relatively short lifespan of the cards by Nuviews.
